Michael Duane is known for creating pastel paintings of turbulent weather and storms of the Kansas plains, exuding cobalt skies and boiling clouds. His landscapes magnify the uniqueness of the Midwestern plains and demand attention. Yet in this exhibition, he has also treated us with an intimate view of many Kansas City landmarks and buildings in the downtown area. Michael’s following includes the corporate board rooms and collectors that are moved by his art which lifts and awes any viewer.
Allan Chow’s high key oil paintings are colorful and immediate and hit you when you walk in the room. Boldly making an immediate impression, Allan’s use of impasto techniques reminds one of frosting-lathered cupcakes, his delicious creations depict wide river scenes, fabulous clouds and, of course, a hint of the Kansas City Skyline.
Preston McCall’s soft, peaceful landscapes reverberate with jewel tones of red, gold and teal. His landscapes are creatively colorful, vibrant and imply movement on their canvas, and yet still give an overall peaceful impression.
Jamie Lavin, the curator for the KC Boys Art Event, takes us back to places we know and love with vast sweeping Kansas landscapes from the Flint Hills to KU’s Campanile and he delivers grandiose, large scale pieces with a bird’s eye viewpoint.
