Michael Duane was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, where he still makes his home today. He received a Bachelor of Fine Art/Design from the University of Kansas in 1980. After working with several mediums over the years, he recently took up pastels exclusively, impressed by the bold, pure colors and the immediacy of the medium. Now working with pastels, Michael found his niche by combining his love of art with a lifelong fascination with the weather which began when he saw the first of several tornados at the age of seven. Michael is passionate about his subject matter and believes his art is evolving because of this passion. His goals have always been to continuously push his art, to keep it fresh while maintaining the unique style he's created, as well as to show people the awesome power and beauty of Mother Nature. Michael has won numerous awards in juried competitions and has achieved both Signature and Master Pastelist status in the Mid America Pastel Society as well as being awarded Signature status in the Pastel Society of America.
