Pastels provide inspiration and brilliant color for a ten year second career former cancer nurse. Whether painting a beloved pet portrait (which is my new found art passion), a human commission, "plein air" painting or an exotic landscape in Europe, the colors are always exciting. As a medium, pastels have great depth and yet are vibrant, ranging from hard to buttery soft. They are not "just chalk" but are made with the same (if not more intense) colorful pigments used by oil painters. Traveling around the world, with wonderful people, landscapes and pets to paint are what keep me fresh and invigorated.
