Cathie Thompson grew up on a farm in Eastern Kansas. Later she and her husband raised their children on his family's ranch, at the edge of the Flint Hills, in Wabaunsee County, Kansas. A lot of her inspiration comes from scenes of the land in Wabaunsee County, that she and her husband still own. Cathie and her husband now reside in Lenexa, KS.
Living in rural Kansas for most of her life, has given Cathie a great appreciation for the outdoors and nature. She enjoys painting outside whenever possible. Most of her art training came from her mother, Jo Flager. Later as time has permitted, she has taken workshops with several well known artists. Cathie paints a variety of subjects depending on her mood and availability of subjects. Most of her work is done in acrylic and oil, and occasionally watercolor. One of Cathie's paintings was chosen for the cover of the 2007 Olathe Sesquicentennial Calendar produced by the Olathe Visual Artists. She was awarded first place in the acrylic division of the "Chase County And The Flint Hills Of Kansas Prairie Art Plein air" event in 2008. In 2009, her painting won Best In Show at the "Pioneer Bluffs 2nd Annual Art Show".
