History of 3013 Main Street, Kansas City MO
Since 1908, 3013 Main has been in the business of bringing relaxation to its patrons. Through the comfort of their furnishings, art and linens, or knowing that their investments are being carefully managed, 3013 Main is focused on letting you rest better at night. In 1923, this building housed Kansas City Bedding Company, which specialized in creating kids’ mattresses and beds for St. Mary’s Hospital. Still providing comfort, Bob Marshall of Kansas City Stationery purchased the building in 1980 to exhibit furniture. Efforts to convert the building into a technology-friendly Financial Consulting office—while preserving its natural features—was not an easy task. Jon McGraw called upon Architect, Craig Shaw, of Shaw Hofstra and Associates to lead the renovation: “Buttonwood 3013 Financial has beautiful archways and tall open ceilings. We commonly face challenges to accommodate office space with a desire to preserve the original ambiance and it is rewarding to see it come together this well.”
In the mid 1980’s, local artist, Martha Clay Wood McDermitt opened Union Hill Arts to feature a wide array of work. As the current owner, Buttonwood Financial Group, chose to revive tradition by utilizing the front display windows as the “Buttonwood Art Space” and currently features Jamie Lavin and Garth Fromme as the inaugural artists. Buttonwood is proud to be active in the community. If it is through renovating the building, promoting regional artists, or supporting their clients with investment counsel, Buttonwood is enhancing the historic look of Union Hill.
